Family History

Today is St. Patrick's Day and this day always makes me think of my family history not just because I'm part Irish but also because according to family lore, St. Patrick converted some of my ancestors to Christianity. My husband has been looking into his family history recently and with St. Patrick's Day coming up, it got me looking at my family ancestry once again. This is not sponsored by the way. I was looking at my family tree on ancestry.com and made a few new connections which led me to find that in addition to being Scottish, Irish, English, German, and French, I also have some family from Eastern Europe as well. It is soooo far back though that I doubt there's much still in my DNA. I still find it fascinating though and will probably continue looking into my family history for years to come.
I think people like to say that they are from this country or that country, but that it is quite possible that there is something in their ancestry that they would never know about unless they did some digging. We like to think we know all that there is to know, but we really can't know it all. That being said, one always hopes they don't find something sinister or something when they do go digging. Looking at my own family history, I know not all my relatives have stellar records. I read about one account recently where my one ancestor settled down on land that according to the record I read, he most likely thought was in public domain for 17 years before being sued for trespassing. He lost the lawsuit and I can only imagine how it all played out as well as what his wife thought of the matter.
What about you? What interesting things have you learned about your family? I hope you have a happy St. Patrick's Day!
